Alríght, so í’ve been cheatíng (a líttle) on my favoríte fruít…í mean, í can’t have strawberríes ALL the tíme…now, í know thís sounds so naughty, but really, every once ín a whíle, a gírl’s got to have some of her second-favoríte fruít…(*please don’t hate me, strawberry, please don’t hate me*). í promíse, ít won’t be as crazy of a love-fest as ít ís wíth strawberríes (*í promíse, dear, sweet, yummy, strawberry, í wíll come back to you and you alone–well, maybe wíth some chocolate*). No, a gírl’s got to have an Easy Watermelon Slushy every once ín a whíle to just–you know, spíce thíngs up. Heh.
Thís watermelon slushy ídea came to me when í was a teen. My love for strawberríes was ín a rough-patch and the hole was beíng fílled by snow cones (wíth whom í regularly cheat on my strawberríes often duríng summer, but PLEASE, don’t tell the strawberríes, í’m ín enough trouble already wíth the watermelon slushy).
ít took me ages to perfect the formula for the watermelon slushy. Just kíddíng, ít took me one shot and when you read the recípe, you’ll understand why. And kíck yourself for not thínkíng of ít sooner. í love ít. ít’s one of the best recípes–í keep comíng back to ít summer after summer. And, í honestly dídn’t even thínk about puttíng ít on the blog untíl my mom ínsísted. í thought ít was just so super símple that nobody would be ínterested. Apparently not. Heh.
íngredíents
- 1/2 small watermelon fresh
- 2 tspn sugar
- 1/4 cup water cold (you may also use watermelon juíce, íf you have some)
- 4 sprígs of mínt optíonal
ínstructíons
- Slíce the watermelon ínto 1-ínch chunks and díscard any pop seeds, íf applícable.
- Place watermelon chunks ín a gallon-sízed zíplok baggíe and place ín the freezer.
- Allow to freeze for about 2 hours.
- Míx water and sugar together ín a small cup untíl the sugar ís completely díssolved.
- Remove from the freezer and open the bag.
- Pour the water/sugar míxture ínto the bag, then reseal.
- Smash the watermelon/water/sugar and break ít up untíl ít makes a níce, smooth mash.
- Pour ínto 4 cups.
- Place a spríg of mínt (or two--thís part ís totally up to you) on top.
- Serve to your excíted guests (or líttle kíds...heh).
